Plant based chocolate cake

I made this cake as a dessert when we had guests over and it was an absolute hit. I had never tried vegan baking before so I was a bit hesitant over whether it would all work but it did. Due to the amount of fruit in this plant based chocolate cake I feel like it can even be called healthy too ;).  Even better, most of the ingredients are available from our shop plastic free!  It is a bit faffy and perhaps not the most elegant cake but well worth the effort for the taste.

Mixed bean chilli

This chilli may not look beautiful but it is a quick and easy go to meal for us. You can always replace the dried beans with tinned to speed things up.

Hot cross buns

Easter is approaching and that means hot cross buns are on all the shelves. I am always disappointed with shop bought hot cross buns, apart from the fact that they are packaged in single use plastic, they are also nowhere near as tasty as this homemade version. Although this is a bit of effort the end result is well worth it. I ended up doing these over most of a day to make sure there was plenty of time for the buns to rise. Almost as soon as they came out of the oven, Rob walked in the front door and promptly ate one, they are just too tasty to resist.

How to make bread by hand

Making bread by hand is something which has, understandably, become less commonplace over time. It is a process which is ideal for someone who is in the house all day doing lots of different bits and pieces. Now, bread is such an easy, cheap staple that few of us even think about making it, and those that do often opt for a bread maker. But I have found the process of making bread wholly satisfying and the result is more delicious than any of the other alternatives.  This recipe is simple, uses very few ingredients and is almost entirely free of plastic, wherever you buy your ingredients. Enjoy and let me know how you get on.
