Making sour dough is a labour of love.  It may be days between starting and finishing, but it is well worth the wait.  For some people, making sour dough is almost a meditative process.  You need to keep the starter alive between batches, feeding it and checking to see how quickly it is growing, putting it in the fridge, taking it out, and then finally extracting some to make into delicious bread.  So prepare yourself, this recipe does take time but it is tried and tested and the best of the different ones we have tried. How to make bread by hand

Making bread by hand is something which has, understandably, become less commonplace over time. It is a process which is ideal for someone who is in the house all day doing lots of different bits and pieces. Now, bread is such an easy, cheap staple that few of us even think about making it, and those that do often opt for a bread maker. But I have found the process of making bread wholly satisfying and the result is more delicious than any of the other alternatives.  This recipe is simple, uses very few ingredients and is almost entirely free of plastic, wherever you buy your ingredients.
