Have you ever tried one of those Nakd bars? They are pretty tasty but unfortunately they come wrapped in plastic. So, thanks to one of our lovely customers, I am able to share with you a recipe for your very own fruit bar, and these truly are ‘naked’. This is a really simple recipe which is gluten free, vegan, and sugar free. But I assure it, they don’t taste well behaved. Eating these gives me my sweet snack fix for the day. The dates give these bars a deliciously fudgey taste and I assure you they are a great way to pack in some healthy sugars if you are planning on climbing any mountains.

Beware Biodegradables!
There has been a lot of talk about ‘biodegradable plastics’ recently and it is being touted by many businesses as the solution to the problem of single use plastics. But this term ‘biodegradable’ seems to me to be misleading people and, when you dig a bit deeper, it isn’t necessarily any better than the original plastic material! In this post I look at the different types of ‘biodegradable plastics’ to see whether they are in fact better, the same, or worse than the current plastics being used.
Plant based chocolate cake
I made this cake as a dessert when we had guests over and it was an absolute hit. I had never tried vegan baking before so I was a bit hesitant over whether it would all work but it did. Due to the amount of fruit in this plant based chocolate cake I feel like it can even be called healthy too ;). Even better, most of the ingredients are available from our shop plastic free! It is a bit faffy and perhaps not the most elegant cake but well worth the effort for the taste.
Lentils with caramelised onion and halloumi
Halloumi is a guilty pleasure of mine as I’m afraid I haven’t managed to find it anywhere without plastic packaging. That said, I don’t have it often and it is absolutely delicious. The caramelised onions and mint really make this dish and I love the combination of flavours.

Chocolate lentil brownies
This is a recipe which I have been lucky enough to eat (thanks Mum) although haven’t tried making yet myself. The brownies are deliciously soft and fluffy, so much so that I almost called this post “Squidgey little chocolate things” but that didn’t sound as nice.
Let’s talk about periods
Menstruation is something which happens to all women and yet is often a difficult topic to discuss. This is a real shame as it makes solving problems and educating people about their choices really challenging. One of the major issues around this is that we never talk about what happens to all those tampons and pads when they are disposed of. Where do they go? How long do they last? I have certainly been guilty of not even asking those questions, let alone the more important ones such as ‘What damage do they cause?’ and ‘What alternatives are there?’.
