Matt Brown_signpost

Just starting out on your zero waste journey? Feeling a bit bamboozled by the ENORMOUS amount of blogs, hints, tips, campaigns and advice out there to help you on your way? Me too. I wanted to try to condense this overwhelming abundance of information into a blog post but I couldn’t…so instead I’m just going to highlight some of the blogs and articles I have found most useful. I know, adding to the amount of stuff out there. But consider this a sign post to help you on your way.

Christmas in Crickhowell

Our pop up shop yesterday at the Christmas event in Crickhowell was our first foray as shop owners and we were a bit nervous.  We shouldn’t have been! The shop was more popular than we had ever expected and the lovely people of Crickhowell gave us such an enthusiastic and positive reception we were overwhelmed.  We spoke to so many supportive people, including the deputy leader of the Green Party and the local MP.

‘Biodegradable’ plastic, cure or curse?

I must admit to having been guilty in the past of complacency around my packaging. If the packaging was labelled ‘recyclable’ or ‘biodegradable’ that used to be enough to satisfy any concerns I had about its environmental impact. I was shocked and appalled to learn that when a product is labelled ‘biodegradable’ it does not necessarily mean it will break down. Zero waste in Wales

Wales is a pretty amazing country and it doesn’t always shout about it.  Although I’m not Welsh, my husband is and almost all of our immediate family live in Wales now.  Since living here, I am regularly impressed and humbled by the incredible work being done.  From individuals making a difference in their local communities, to politicians making ground breaking political changes, Wales has a lot to be proud of.

Introducing Natural Weigh!

zero waste shop

This is a quick introduction to Robin and Chloe.  We are the founders of Natural Weigh and are incredibly excited to be embarking on this journey.

Robin has a background in marine science.  He has worked for the government fisheries laboratory for many years and has seen first hand the plastic problem in our seas and oceans.  Robin is a bit of an adrenaline junkie and loves spending time in natural environments, whether it be surfing or rock climbing, walking or cycling, he is keen.  The only thing to mar these trips into the outdoors is the litter which is ever present.

Chloe has worked in environmental policy for the last 4 years, working with administrations from the European Commission to the Welsh Government.  Chloe has a passion for our natural world and the wildlife in it and hates to see the suffering caused by plastic pollution.

We are very fortunate to be able to start this shop and also very grateful for the support of our friends and family in helping us to make this happen.
