In-House Bakes

Natural Weigh In-house bakes - ginger cake

Introducing Bethan’s In-House Bakes at Natural Weigh

We’re excited to share that our sweet and savoury in-house bakes is now being lovingly made by Bethan, a passionate baker with deep roots in food, family, and flavour. If you’ve tried our vegan sausage rolls, flapjacks, or savoury scones, you’ll have already tasted her talent. But we thought you might like to know a little more about the person behind the bakes.

A Family Tradition of Baking

Bethan’s love for baking goes right back to her childhood. “My Nanny Wales made lovely fruit cakes and Welsh cakes… her house often smelled of baking!” she recalls. That sense of warmth and comfort has stayed with her, inspiring her to create baked goods that feel homely, nourishing, and full of care.

Cooking as a Career

Food has been a big part of Bethan’s working life too. “I managed a creperie in London, and loved being able to cook for work — I’ve made literally thousands of pancakes!” she laughs. From flipping pancakes to rolling pastry, cooking professionally gave her the confidence to combine skill with creativity in the kitchen.

Inspired by Family and Community

At home, cooking is very much a family affair. “My family love to cook and eat together, and when my children were born it grew more and more important for me to make things from scratch using quality ingredients.” That ethos of care, quality, and sustainability is what makes Bethan’s baking such a natural fit for Natural Weigh.

She also credits her inspiration to local bakers and friends. “I was very inspired by Jennifer at Dough & Daughter’s who gave me the confidence to make baking my living.” Alongside her work with us, Bethan also runs Wayward Flours, creating bespoke cakes from home.

Rooted in Place, Open to the World

Bethan brings together flavours from both near and far. “I love using foraged and locally sourced ingredients,” she explains, but she also has a curiosity for the wider world. “I love travelling and enjoy using ingredients popular in other cuisines and learning traditional bakes from other cultures.”

Baking with Joy

Above all, baking is Bethan’s way of finding joy. “If I ever feel down I get out the cake pans!” she admits. And we’re delighted that her joy in baking is now being shared with the Natural Weigh community. “I’m delighted to be working with the lovely people at Natural Weigh, and admire their ethos on sustainability and environmental care.”

Come and Taste our In-house bakes

From hearty vegan sausage rolls to indulgent flapjacks and savoury scones, Bethan’s in-house bakes are baked fresh for you in our kitchen. We can’t wait for you to try them — each one made with care, quality ingredients, and plenty of passion.

Christmas gift giving guide

Gift boxes hampers

Christmas is a wonderful time of year.  I get a warm fuzzy feeling every year when we put the fairy lights up, but it is often accompanied by no small amount of stress.  A major cause of this can be gift giving.  Whether your household goes all out and gets lots of presents, or if you are more modest and have a secret santa set up, it can sometimes feel impossible to find the right gift.  This becomes even more challenging once you start looking into environmental credentials and suddenly, it can feel like you can’t get them anything.  No one wants to give an unwanted gift so we need to think carefully about what gifts to give and avoid falling into the consumerism trap.  Well fear not, here we have some Natural Weigh approved tips and guilt free gift giving advice. Natural Weigh’s first birthday

RC in shop 2

On a snowy day in March 2018, we first opened our doors as Natural Weigh – Wales’ first zero waste shop. It was scary and exciting in equal measure and we can’t really believe it has been a whole year since that first day. But here we are, March 2019, and what a year it has been. We wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on all the amazing things which have happened over the past 12 months and to say a massive thank you to everyone who has been in to see us and shop with us. It is down to all of you that Natural Weigh has been a success and we are overwhelmingly grateful for your support and enthusiasm.

Christmas in Crickhowell

IMAG0107 scaled

Our pop up shop yesterday at the Christmas event in Crickhowell was our first foray as shop owners and we were a bit nervous.  We shouldn’t have been! The shop was more popular than we had ever expected and the lovely people of Crickhowell gave us such an enthusiastic and positive reception we were overwhelmed.  We spoke to so many supportive people, including the deputy leader of the Green Party and the local MP.

Introducing Natural Weigh!

zero waste shop

This is a quick introduction to Robin and Chloe.  We are the founders of Natural Weigh and are incredibly excited to be embarking on this journey.

Robin has a background in marine science.  He has worked for the government fisheries laboratory for many years and has seen first hand the plastic problem in our seas and oceans.  Robin is a bit of an adrenaline junkie and loves spending time in natural environments, whether it be surfing or rock climbing, walking or cycling, he is keen.  The only thing to mar these trips into the outdoors is the litter which is ever present.

Chloe has worked in environmental policy for the last 4 years, working with administrations from the European Commission to the Welsh Government.  Chloe has a passion for our natural world and the wildlife in it and hates to see the suffering caused by plastic pollution.

We are very fortunate to be able to start this shop and also very grateful for the support of our friends and family in helping us to make this happen.
